😦 “Look under your car,” a little unknown girl told me: I knelt down to look, and I never imagined finding something like that.
Yesterday, I had been invited to a dinner at my boss’s house. I had parked my car a bit farther from their house because there was no space left on their driveway.
After the dinner, when I was leaving their house, I saw a little girl near my car. She was about eight years old, kneeling next to the tire, and seemed worried.
I approached her slowly so as not to startle her. I thought she was hiding from someone.
— “Hi there, little one, what’s your name?” I asked her.
She looked at me with wide eyes and replied:
— “Hi, sir, my name is Emily.”
— “That’s a very pretty name. Are you hiding from someone?” I asked.
— “No, sir.”
— “So, can I leave with my car?”
— “No, no, sir, you can’t leave. Look at what’s under your car.”
I knelt down to look, thinking her ball or some other toy was stuck under the car. But I never imagined what I was about to find. I was very grateful that she had warned me.

As I leaned under the car, I saw sharp metal pieces and other metal objects placed under the tires.
Emily explained to me that it was from the old neighbor, Mr. Dupont.
He was known in the neighborhood for his bad temper.
Every time someone parked in front of his house, he would do this, placing sharp objects under the vehicles, hoping to damage them.
He hated people parking near his entrance.
Emily told me that she had noticed the objects under my car while playing.
I was surprised by the behavior of this man, but relieved that Emily had taken the time to warn me.
