😲 My daughter used to carry a very heavy backpack to school, but I finally understood the reason when I met her bus driver.
My husband left us right after our daughter, Lily, was born. Since then, I’ve raised her alone, without any help. She’s now six years old, and there’s never been any secrets between us.
She’s always told me everything, saying that I was not only her mother, but also her big sister.
But one day, everything changed. I started to notice strange behavior in her. One morning, before taking her to school, I picked up her backpack, and it seemed way too heavy.
I wanted to open it to see what was inside, and that’s when Lily entered the room and grabbed her bag.
“Sweetie, your backpack is too heavy, what did you put in it?” I asked.
“Yes, I know, Mom, it’s because of my books,” she replied, before rushing out, saying she was going to be late for the bus.
I knew that, generally, books were not allowed to be taken home, so I decided to check with the school. I called the administration, and they confirmed everything.
This made me worried, and I started to ask myself questions, not understanding what my daughter might be hiding from me. When I paid closer attention, I noticed that, every day, she carried a backpack that was way too heavy.
Finally, it was the bus driver from her school who revealed everything to me.

The next day, after talking to the bus driver, I learned that Lily had become friends with his daughter, Clara.
Clara, who was a few months older than Lily, had leukemia.
It was a serious illness, and the little girl spent her days at the hospital, receiving heavy treatments.
I wasn’t aware of this secret friendship, but it explained a lot of things.
The driver explained to me that Lily often brought clothes for Clara, thinking that Clara needed them more than she did.
She would pick out clothes she no longer wore and put them in her backpack, despite their weight.
I was moved and heartbroken when I discovered her secret.
