My husband said he wanted to sleep, and if the baby woke up after 11 PM, it would be my problem

😦 My husband said he wanted to sleep, and if the baby woke up after 11 PM, it would be my problem. Then, my mother-in-law intervened, and what she said created tension between my husband and me.

For a few weeks now, our baby has been sleeping very poorly. She wakes up several times during the night, and often it takes me a lot of time and effort to get her back to sleep. It’s an exhausting period.

My husband never helps me. Yet, at the beginning of our marriage, he was the one who absolutely wanted to have a child. He dreamed about it, he talked about it all the time. But since the birth, he has never taken care of the baby at night.

One evening, when he came home, he told me he was very tired and wanted to go to bed early. Until then, I could understand. But what he added hurt me: “If the baby wakes up after 11 PM, that will be your problem. I’m too exhausted to take care of her.”

I couldn’t stay silent and answered him: “You talk as if you usually help, and that tonight is just the first time you want to rest. In reality, it’s always me who takes care of the baby. You just sleep.”

The discussion turned into an argument. At that moment, his mother, who had heard everything, entered our room without knocking, which she normally never does.

She intervened, and her words really created additional tension between my husband and me.

My husband said he wanted to sleep, and if the baby woke up after 11 PM, it would be my problem

My mother-in-law came in, visibly annoyed.

She reproached us for arguing while the baby was barely sleeping: “This is not how you manage a family. You need to talk calmly!”

Her remark brought a chill.

My husband became defensive, and I felt judged.

But surprisingly, she turned to him and said: “You know, you’re a lot like your father… Always running away from responsibilities. That’s why I ended up divorcing him.”

My husband stayed silent.

Then she added, more softly: “I don’t want you to make the same mistakes. She needs you, and your daughter does too.”

Her words surprised me.

For the first time, I felt understood.

The tension eased. My husband, a little ashamed, just lowered his eyes.
