“No! Stop! Don’t dig there!” my husband shouted and ran over in panic when he saw where our eight-year-old son was digging

😲 My son was playing with his metal detector in the garden of our lakeside home when it detected something. When he started digging, curious about what he had found, my husband ran over in panic, shouting, “No! Stop! Don’t dig there!”

My son was obsessed with shows where people use metal detectors to find buried treasures. So, we bought him one for his birthday. He was incredibly happy and said it was the best gift he had ever received.

The following weekend, we went to my husband’s family home, which was located beside a lake. The house had belonged to his family for several generations.

My son was convinced he would find something because the property was really large. At first, he found a few rusty pieces of metal and some bottle caps.

When he headed toward the lakeshore, the detector started beeping. He grabbed his little shovel and began digging, excited at the thought that he had found a real treasure.

When my husband saw where he was digging, he ran over shouting:

— No! Stop! Don’t dig there!

I ran after him, and when I saw what our son had found, I was left speechless.

There was a recently buried box with an inscription on it: “For Remy – when you’re old enough.”

I opened it and found numerous letters written by my husband to our son.

As I read them, I discovered that he had been considering leaving our family two months earlier.

Instead of talking to me about his fears and our problems, he had written these letters in secret and had even discussed them with his sister.

I then realized that our marriage was not going as well as I had thought.

My husband eventually admitted that he was afraid of losing our family and didn’t know how to talk to me about what he was feeling.

We decided to give ourselves one last chance, promising each other that we would never again keep our wounds and fears hidden.

That day, thanks to our son’s unexpected discovery, we realized that the real treasure worth saving wasn’t buried in the garden—it was our family.
