At the age of 33, British woman Gemma Holmes experienced a horrific accident on her way to work.
She suffered severe injuries, including a spinal fracture and a concussion, and doctors decided to put her into a medically induced coma.
They informed Gemma’s parents that their daughter was in critical condition and expecting a baby.
Just three months later, the British woman woke up from the coma. She had no idea where she was and couldn’t remember what had happened to her.
She had spent three months in an unconscious state – unaware that a new life was growing inside her.
“I opened my eyes, and suddenly, I heard, ‘You’re in the hospital.
You’ve been in a serious accident; you have a brain injury, a punctured lung, and multiple fractures,'” Gemma said in the Real-fix.com podcast.
She was shocked. All memories of the past three years of her life, including the name of the father of her unborn child, had vanished from her memory.
Doctors gave Gemma a week to decide whether she wanted to terminate the pregnancy.
However, despite the severity of her situation, the woman wanted to give birth and became the mother of a healthy son in the spring of 2013, whom she named Ruben.
Gemma is convinced that her child was born for a reason and that the fact that he survived the accident and coma is a miracle for her.
The birth of Ruben was not the only incredible event in the family. Contrary to doctors’ predictions, Gemma learned to walk again and took her first steps alongside her one-year-old son.
According to Gemma, her mother’s advice helped her overcome the difficulties. Her mother always told her, “If you think negatively, bad things will happen.
Think positively, and something good will happen in your life.”
Gemma has proven herself to be a true fighter. For the sake of her son, she was willing to endure any pain just to get out of her wheelchair and return to a normal life.
Sometimes, she still feels very unwell and stays in bed for a long time. But when the pain subsides, she gets up and goes to the gym to exercise.
According to Gemma, nothing happens by chance, and she doesn’t blame fate for what happened to her.
Now, Gemma simply tries to enjoy every new day and every new moment with her son, who appeared so suddenly in her life.
And the accident gave this young woman a chance at a long life. Thanks to it, she discovered a dangerous disease in time.
