Nothing suggested that his father would take such a step. The child didn’t expect it at all. He just remembered that his mother had asked him to take photos of his birthmark. Can you imagine the surprise?
Derek Prue Sr. went to a tattoo parlor, “Juicy Quill” in Stony Plain, to start a tattoo with Tony Gibert. The goal: to replicate his son’s birthmark on his own body.
The father thought it would take just one session, but the initial three hours turned into 30 hours spread over more than six weeks. During his first session, he recalls asking the tattoo artist if it was almost finished after more than three hours.
On December 9, Derek and his son went back to see Tony to compare the tattoo to the original mark. Tony expressed his satisfaction on his Facebook page, saying, “It’s very cool of him to have done this to help his son gain confidence.”
Hope Marie, Derek’s mother, wanted to thank the tattoo artist under his post. She wrote: “I just wanted to say thank you for what you’ve done and for your special contribution to my son. You will forever be a part of our lives! The artwork you gave him is already in his room!”
