😯 My parents asked me to lose weight before my sister’s wedding, so as not to ruin the photos: I was furious, and here’s what happened next.
After finishing my studies at university and finding a job, I made the decision to live on my own because I had had enough of the constant criticism and control from my parents over my life.
I wouldn’t say I was skinny, but I felt good in my body and was healthy. Yet, my mother would often criticize me for being overweight.
She constantly compared me to my sister, who was the family’s model. She was engaged and preparing for her wedding in six months.
One day, my mother called me to say that she wanted to discuss something with me.
“Anna, your sister’s wedding is in six months. You absolutely need to lose weight before the wedding,” she told me. At first, I thought she was joking, but she continued, “I don’t want you to ruin the wedding photos.”

I was really angry.
I was no longer the little girl they could manipulate however they wanted.
I knew I wasn’t going to lose weight just because they told me to.
So, I made a decision: I wouldn’t go to the wedding.
I didn’t want to submit to their expectations, to play a role in this staged event.
And I knew that, even if it would disappoint them, my mental health and well-being came first.
I sent them a message explaining that I wouldn’t be attending the ceremony.
I also made it clear that, contrary to what they thought, their attitude wouldn’t motivate me to change, but rather to distance myself.
That day, I realized that the most important thing wasn’t to please others, but to accept myself as I am.
